Nouveau design du vélocityEt le nouveau Guru 2009Introducing the new Lamson Velocity and Guru
Last summer, when the Castle Rock fire was burning toward Ketchum, an event that would eventually transform 40,000 acres of fuel–loaded, drought parched forest and sage slopes into char, the town was an apocalyptic scene of smoke filled streets and flame crested ridgelines. It was hot and windy and no one knew how much of the valley the fire would take.
Snow came before most of us had had a chance to see up close what was left of the slopes, and it wasn’t until we were gliding down the out–of–bounds powder runs, a monochrome of black trunks and shimmering “white smoke,” that we had first contact with the new landscape. Winter was like a cold compress beneath which lay the damage.
In the winter of ’08, getting onto the Warm Springs chairlift with charcoal blackened sleeves meant you had been out there, into the surreal landscape of fire – yet still one really couldn’t see what was underneath. It took a good snowpack, a cold spring, and a long, slow run–off, but the fresh landscape finally emerged: beautiful, stark, re–born, hills ablaze with violet lupine and yellow Balsamroot.
For our 2009 season, we’ve taken up the example, burning away some dead wood, making room for new life.
With our continuing goal to bring the best technology in reels to any given price point, we have focused in improving our offering at the value price points: the all–new Velocity and Guru reels.
With the new Velocity reel, only the name remains the same. Totally redesigned and machined using a unique “3 plane” pocket milling technique, every aspect of performance, strength–to–weight ratio, line pick–up speed and storage have been improved. And as is often the case, the distinctive new engineered “truss” wall structures give Velocity a personality all its own. Bigger, faster, lighter and stronger.
Two additional features add to the list of improvement for the new Velocity. For the first time, the 10 weight Velocity will utilize our larger drag format to generate more stopping power. And we have introduced two new spool sizes to accommodate the backing capacity needed for a saltwater 8 weight (the 3x spool which runs on the Velocity 3 frame) and for a saltwater 9 weight (the 3.5x spool which runs on the Velocity 3.5 frame). Velocity is finished with our bullet–proof Hard Alox.
We’re pleased to introduce the new Guru, an enlightening reel. Guru enters the family as our lowest–priced fully machined reel. The signature arm–style element on the frame combines with open spokes to maximize structural strength and minimize weight. As with our other reels, Guru features true large arbor ratios. Guru is available in 4 weight through 10 weight, and shares identical drag design and components with our most expensive reels. Guru is finished with a clear type 2 anodize.
